Ingredients That Make For A Healthy Dog Food Mixture

By Chris Channing

With many families considering their pets to be "one of the family," the problem of knowing what food is best for the pet while keeping within budget becomes a task to work around. Even common pet foods may not be healthy for your dog, so it is best to educate yourself on what should and should not be in your dog's food.

Humans and canines both need protein to keep a stable immune system and for healing after an illness. Protein that comes from cheap sources isn't considered to be so beneficial, but protein derived from red meat and chicken will do their best to "keep the show running." Dog food producers that use real meat charge more money, but the end product is much more tasty and healthy for dogs.

Fish isn't something that dogs eat a lot of; it's something that is more associated with cats. Fish has the essential fatty amino acids that is important for show dogs that need a fine coat and healthy exterior. It also stimulates the healing process. Herring and trout are common sources of fish in dog food products.

The bulk of the meal will likely be comprised of grain- usually wheat. The wheat that is mixed in with the dog food should be of fine quality to promote healthy digestion. Look for a whole wheat blend that offers plenty of fiber and carbohydrates for digesting food and maintaining energy. Wheat products are preferred over corn-based products that are harder for the canine to digest.

Those who are keen on feeding pets know that rice is excellent when a dog has a digestion problem. Rice that is present in dog food acts the same way- enabling the dog to get through digestion problems and keep the digestion tract healthy for the future. If your dog seems to have serious problems on a long term basis, it is probably safer to be proactive and get the pet to a veterinarian for a routine health check up.

If you are given the choice of eating a fresh fruit or one that has been canned in manufactured circumstances, odds are you will go for fresh fruit. The idea is the same for pets, although not just for taste. Organic foods that are put into dog food are much more healthy than the synthetic ingredients that are put into dog food. Factory made food isn't always bad, but the majority of dog food is sold so cheap for a reason.

In Conclusion

There isn't a great deal of time that a canine will be able to share with a family- so it's best to treat the pet to good food and keep it healthy as possible. Canines also appreciate food that is tasty, so experiment with several types of dog food to get a healthy and cost effective product.
