The True Story Of The Ali/Inoki Fight

Decades before mixed martial arts became popular in the United States, events matching fighters of different fighting disciplines were very common in Japan. They weren't called "mixed martial arts" at the time, but that's essentially what they were.There's an entire history of pro wrestlers fighting specialists from other martial arts (particularly judo) that were leaving out, but during the'70's Antonio Inoki began to put the concept of "mixed martial arts" on the map with his matches against fighters from other disciplines.

Before and after his matchup against Muhammad Ali, Inoki would frequently compete against other martial artists in what are widely accepted to be "worked" (ie: having a predetermined outcome) matches. Inoki fought boxer Chuck Wepner, judo Gold Medalist Wilhelm Ruska and world karate champion Willie Williams among others. His most famous match internationally, however, was against Ali.

There's still much speculation about how Muhammad Ali came to fight Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki, and even more uncertainty about what happened immediately before and during the fight. Ali took the booking because he thought it was to be a big paycheck for little work. Most accounts suggest that his handlers agreed to the 'worked' finish without his knowledge, and once he found out that he was to 'take a dive' he refused.

By the time the fight began, Ali's handlers had obtained a ridiculously one sided set of rules that prohibited Inkoi from using a closed fist, striking Ali in the head at all, using any chokes or submissions or even trying to take the fight to the ground. Were it not for the huge amount of money he'd be leaving on the table, Inoki would have been justified in not fighting at all under these highly restrictive and one-sided conditions.

Despite the repeated howls from the media that the fight was 'fixed', it was anything but--it was a real fight and painfully boring. Ali did next to nothing, Inoki did whatever he could within the one sided rules. Eventually, Inoki spent most of the fight on the ground trying to throw kicks at Ali's legs. The event ended up as a 74-74 draw. Both fighters got paid, and the fans got to watch a fight albeit a really, really bad one.

The fight was officiated by former pro wrestler "Judo" Gene Labell, a legendary tough guy considered at the time to be the 'baddest man on the planet'. He could have easily beaten up both men, possibly at the same time. That might have provided some much needed entertainment to liven up the tedious charade masquerading as a fight.

After the fight, Inoki's popularity in Japan was greater than ever. He became something of a hero for trying to fight despite having the rules so decidedly in his opponent's favor. He'd continue his fights against other martial artists and remain one of the country's most popular sports figures for years to come. His 'worked' martial arts matches can be credited with sparking later hybrid promotions showcasing pro wrestling and martial arts that evolved into PRIDE, RINGS and the major Japanese fight promotions of today.

We human beings can all learn telepathy. Telepathy translates into sensing/transmitting feelings at a distance, and/or doing so without using the five physical senses and without using words. What happened in this case is that one or the other of you contacted the other telepathically, transmitting longing, affection, wonder, and other emotions.

This telepathic contact sparked them to contact you verbally. Maybe you thought of them first, and they received your feelings and were prompted to contact you. Or, maybe they signaled to you, your thoughts of them were return signals (without you realizing it) and that gave them the go-ahead to make further contact. And it could have been that they were preparing to contact you and you telepathically perceived it before they actually did the action.

Many people feel that they cannot learn telepathy for one reason or another. It might have to do with religious upbringing teaching them that telepathy is 'sorcery' and 'of the devil', so they have never tried to learn it and might even have suppressed any telepathic experiences they were having until they could no longer recognize them. They may also have been told that telepathy is irrational nonsense because there's no 'scientific evidence' for it-another lie (there actually is such evidence).

One real barrier that people find when learning telepathy is believing a particular myth. This idea is that regular, spoken language is less important or useful than telepathy, that's it's inferior. Some people think that as our telepathic abilities decayed over time, we were forced to learn speech. This isn't any more true than the belief that telepathy is a product of Satan. Words and telepathy can go together just like the words to a song go with the music.

In that analogy, the lyrics would be spoken words and the music would be telepathy. Each one enhances the other. Words are needed to clarify and more sharply define the telepathic feelings. This was why words were developed in the first place. Unfortunately, it clearly appears to be the case that over a long period of time people became so dependent on language that they came to neglect their development of telepathic communication.

The first thing you need to do if you're going to practice telepathic contact is partner with someone. Ideally, you should choose someone you've been good friends with for a long time. Choose someone who's also open minded about telepathy and, if possible, pick a partner who also wants to learn this method of communication. Beginners benefit from positive reinforcement.

The next thing you must do is separate from your partner. You don't have to go far, but you need to be unable to see one another or to give one another conscious or unconscious cues. Decide who'll go first, then visualize the other person as clearly as you can in your mind. Alternate who is doing this, and imagine a connection between you. This connection can take many forms, but a string of light or something similar are very common images.

The next thing to do is to send a thought through that thread or from one light into the other. This is like a web transmission or phone call. Keep it simple to start with and go with the clearest thought possible. Make it something the other person can't guess without contact, though!

When you feel (literally) that you've completed this telepathic transmission, contact the partner by cellphone, etc, and ask them what if anything they saw in their mind. Once you've compared notes, it's the partner's turn to telepathically send to you.

When you are beginning, if you don't feel that you were able to transmit after 15 minutes, stop for a while. Your first attempts should be kept brief so that you don't exhaust yourselves and so you don't become frustrated and allow negative feelings to settle in.
